Carl Andersen Heyes
1946 - 2000

Carl Andersen Heyes, age 54, passed away Oct. 6, 2000 as the consequence of an extended disabling illness.

He was born February 10, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edward (Ted) and Verna Andersen Heyes. He married Gail Parsons, his high school and college sweetheart, on July 25, 1975 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Carl was raised in Salt Lake City near Liberty Park, graduated from South High School and received his B.S. degree from the University of Utah in Business. Prior to the onset of his disabling illness, he worked many years with his brother Edward as an orthopedic technician and surgical assistant, and assisted in the business affairs of his wife Gail's CPA office. A learned student of many subjects, he particularly enjoyed Egyptian, Greek, and Viking art and history. He loved to sculpture, was an avid inventor and craftsman. Many of his skills and an interest in gardening, he inherited from his Danish grandfather, Carl Christian Andersen, and a family line of master cabinet makers. He became quite expert in computer use. He dearly loved animals.

He particularly enjoyed extensively decorating his home for Halloween, assisted by his wife Gail, and his nieces. the neighborhood will miss their many creations each October 31st.

Carl worked for a lifetime perfecting methods of automated water filtration. His garden pools, featuring beautiful fish and lush aquatic fauna, bubbled sparkling clear year-round. They were visited and admired frequently by friends, clients, and family.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Parsons Heyes, who passed away on July 16, 2000, his father and mother, Edward (Ted) and Verna Andersen Heyes, and a dearly beloved grandfather and grandmother, Carl Christian and Nicolina Nielsen Anderson.

He grieved severely over the loss of his life-time mate and best friend, Gail, who "loved me and believed in me". They now join one another free from pain and sorrow. "We go to rest in paradise".

He is survived by his pets, cats, Sindri, Amun, and Tadjl; dogs, Valkyrie and Vlad; his sister, Carolyn Heyes of Salt Lake City; brother, Edward A Heyes (Jill) of Riverside, CA; four nieces, Kimberly (David) Anderson, Salt Lake City; Heather (Dan) Judd, Phoenix, AZ; Amy (Steve) Overton, Salt Lake City; and Katie (Mark) Edgley, Salt Lake City; and nephew, Matthew E. Heyes, Provo.

Following a requested "Viking Funeral" with sword in hand, he joined his wife in interment at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a beautiful brook-side site where as a young couple in college, Carl and Gail frequently met for "lunch on the green." A private memorial service was conducted by the family.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the Hogle Zoo.
