Glen Eugene Mathews
1946 - 2007

Glen Eugene Mathews 1946 ~ 2007 Glen Eugene Mathews passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on November 19, 2007, following a valiant 6-year struggle with alcohol addiction, leaving behind a shocked and distraught family. Glen was born in Salt Lake City August 26, 1946, the third and youngest child of Glen and Maxine (Cross) Mathews (both deceased). Glen attended South High School and following graduation in 1964, began a 35-year career with the State of Utah at the Tax Commission, where he received the Utah Public Association Outstanding Public Employee award in 1978. In 1979, he transferred to the Department of Natural Resources, retiring as Motor Pool Fleet Manager in 2000. Since retiring, he had worked part-time at Big 5 Sporting Goods, volunteered at the Kamas Fish Hatchery in 2003 and was currently a volunteer at the Utah Museum of Natural History.

Glen is survived by devoted wife, Lotti Ann Wann; daughters, Kari Faerber and Ambur Mathews; grandchildren, Jesse, Adam and Hannah Faerber; brother, Art (Karlee); sister, Elsie (Mack) Zahler; two nieces, three nephews, a loving mother-in-law and many friends. Glen had a warm, fun-loving personality and received joy from helping people and fixing things. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, bicycling, snowshoeing and anything outdoors, as well as reading, crossword puzzles and traveling. Over the past 27 years, he and Lotti traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and in 2003, Spain and Portugal. They made 17 trips to Mexico, and had planned to fly to Puerto Vallarta on November 30. This past summer he and Lotti spent a wonderful month teaching and touring in China. Glen was a great storyteller, had a gregarious, outgoing nature and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27 at Larkin Sunset Lawn (2350 East 1300 South) at which time friends are invited to also share their memories of Glen. Friends may meet with the family beginning at 5:00 p.m. before and after the service. In lieu of flowers, Glen's family suggest contributions be made to the Utah Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah, or the charity of your choice.
