Jay William Downs
1946 - 2014 On April 22, 2014, at the age of 67, Jay William Downs passed away peacefully in his home after a courageous two and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born August 22, 1946 in S.L.C., Utah to Elvin and Neva Ash Downs. From a very young age, Jay was a hard worker with incredible work ethic. He never had to be asked twice to get a job done. Jay served a faithful mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia from 1966-1968 and remained true to his faith in the Savior until the end. He served as elders quorum president, bishop, high priest group leader, high councilman, scout master, young mens president and various teaching callings. He married Lisbeth Wallin on September 8, 1969 and began his career in business and sales. His optimistic attitude and entrepreneurial spirit carried him through many business adventures. This attitude and his hard work ethic is what he will be remembered for, never shying away from any job. He especially enjoyed developing his horse ranch, sharing his love for cooking, and serving his family faithfully. Jay is survived by his wife, Lisbeth, and four children: Skoby (Annie) Downs, Heber; Trevor (Krissy) Downs, Portland, OR; Blake (Beth) Downs, Hyrum; Darcy (Sam) Haas, Midway; and 18 grandchildren. He is also survived by his four siblings, Carla (Marvin) Francis; Marilyn (Fred) Glauser; Donna (Kevin) Rasmussen; and Mark (Susan) Downs.
